Arjuna said- "O Trilokinath! I heard the story of Nirjala Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Jyestha month. Now please tell me the story of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashadha month. What is the name and significance of this Ekadashi? Now let me elaborate.
Shri Krishna said- "O Pandu son! The name of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashada month is Yogini Ekadashi. Its fast destroys all sins. This fast is about giving enjoyment in Ihloka and liberation in the hereafter. O Arjuna! This Ekadashi Famous among the three worlds. All sins are destroyed by its fast. Let me tell you the story told in Purana, listen carefully - a king named Kubera used to rule in a city named Alkapuri.
He was a Shiva-devotee. He had a Yaksha servant named Hemmali, who used to bring flowers for worship. Hemmali had a very beautiful woman named Vishalakshi. One day he brought flowers from Mansarovar, but due to being a kamasakta, he kept flowers and began to amuse him with his woman. It was noon in this indulgence.
Seeing the way of Hemmali, when King Kuber had an afternoon, he angrily ordered his servants to go and find out why Hemmali had not yet brought a flower. When the servants found him, he went to the king and said- 'O Rajan! That Hemmali is doing Raman with his woman.
Hearing this, King Kubera ordered to call Hemmali. Hemmali, trembling with fear, appeared before the king. Seeing her, Kubera was very angry and started flapping her lips.
The king said- 'Hey, Adham! You have insulted Lord Shiva, the God of my deity, too. I curse (curse) you that you suffer in the disconnection of a woman and go to the dead and lead a leper's life.
With the curse (curse) of Kubera, he instantly fell from heaven to earth and became a leper. His woman also got separated from him. On coming to death, he suffered many terrible sufferings, but due to the grace of Shiva, his intellect did not melt and he was also happy about his past life. Suffering from many sufferings and remembering the kukarmo of his previous birth, he walked towards the Himalayas.
While walking, he reached the ashram of Rishi Markandeya. That sage was a very old ascetic. He looked like another Brahma and his ashram was adorned like a meeting of Brahma. Seeing the sage, Hemmali went there and bowed down at his feet.
Seeing Hemmali, the sage Markandeya said- 'What evil deeds have you done, due to which you are leprous and suffering terrible suffering.
Hemmali said after listening to Maharishi - 'O Munishreshtha! I was a follower of King Kubera. My name is Hemmali. I used to bring flowers from Mansarovar everyday and gave it to Kubera at the time of Shiva worship. One day, because of being trapped in the pleasure of wife cohabitation, I did not know the time and could not reach the flower till noon. Then they cursed me (curse) that you will go to the dead and death of your woman and become a leper and suffer. For this reason, I have become a leper and am suffering terrible pain after coming to the earth, so please tell me some way, which will liberate me.
Markandeya Rishi said- 'O Hemmali! You have told the truth in front of me, therefore I tell you a fast for your salvation. If you will fast on the Ekadashi called Yogini of Krishna Paksha of Aashad month, then all your sins will be destroyed.
Hemmali was very pleased to hear the words of Maharishi and according to his words Yogini started fasting on Ekadashi. With the effect of this fast, she regained her old form and lived happily with her woman..
Hey Rajan! The fruit of the story of this Yogini Ekadashi is equivalent to feeding eighty-eight Sahasra Brahmins. By this vow, all sins are destroyed and by attaining salvation in the end, the creature becomes the possessor of heaven.
