Like the peepal tree in the scriptures, the banyan tree also has special significance. In the Puranas, it is believed that Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva reside in the Vatavriksha. Therefore, it is believed that sitting under this tree and doing pooja and Katha fulfills all desires. This tree remains for a long time, hence it is also called Akshayavat.
Vatavriksha is special in many ways, firstly this tree is known for its vastness. Vatavriksha is good for the environment, it gives coolness and purity to the environment and it is also beneficial from spiritual perspective. Therefore, this tradition of worshiping the Vatavriksha as Vat Savitri fast reflects the dignity of Indian culture and it also teaches the importance of trees.
Savitri was the daughter of King Ashwapati. The king was found compassionate by the goddess Savitri after doing a lot of worship. Hence the king named his daughter 'Savitri'. Savitri was very beautiful and virtuous, but after much effort from her father, Savitri could not get a quality groom like her. Finally defeated, the king sent Savitri himself in search of the groom. At the same time Savitri got Satyavan and accepted Satyavan as a groom. Satyavan was a royal family but circumstances had taken away his rule and his parents had become blind.
Even before the marriage of Satyavan and Savitri, Narad Muni had told Savitri that Satyavan was not short-lived but short-lived, so Savitri should not marry him. But Savitri did not listen to Devarshi Narada and married her and said that woman only once in life, she does not remember her husband again and again. That is why I have once accepted Satyavan as a groom, so I have to fight against him even for death.
When the time of Satyavan's death came near, Savitri gave up food and water three days ago. On the day of death, when Satyavan went to cut wood in the forest, Savitri also went with him and when Yamraj came to pick him up Savitri also went with him. Seeing this, Yamraj started to convince them, yet she did not return. Then Yamraj told Savitri that you can ask for any groom except Satyavan's life.
In such a situation, Savitri sought the eyes of her blind mother-in-law and the lost father-in-law of the father-in-law, but did not return. Seeing Savitri's love for her husband, Yamraj was moved and asked Savitri to ask for a bride, then Savitri asked for the groom to be the mother of Satyavan's sons.
