According to the Puranas, Lord Sri Rama was born on the Navami date of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Lord Vishnu took incarnations in every age to destroy diabolical things and establish religion. He took an avatar in the form of Lord Shi Ram. Lord Sri Rama is considered to be the 7th incarnation of Shri Hari Vishnu) Shri Rama is also called Maryada Purushottam, the day Lord Shri Hari took birth as Rama with the womb of Mother Kaushalya at King Dasharatha. The day of birth was the day of Navami. This is the reason that this date is celebrated as Ram Navami.

This festival falls on the 9th day of the Hindu calendar month of Chaitra. The celebration of Sri Ram Navami on the 9th day of the month of Chaitra signifies the divine power on earth. On this day, Lord Vishnu was born as Ram, the elder son of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya. On this day, devotees of Lord Ram perform some elaborate rituals to purify their souls. The devotees who have kept a nine-day fast in Navratri or who have not fasted, will perform the Navami rituals at home in a formal manner. Havan is done with the main mantras of Durgasaptashati. Havan purifies the atmosphere. Religious and spiritual atmosphere is created in the house. Many people complete Sri Ramcharitmanas in 9 days and they also do havan with some special chaupis of Manas.

Why is Ram Navami Celebrated?

According to the Puranas, Lord Rama was born on the Navami date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Lord Rama is considered the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Rama is also called Maryada Purushottam. It was Lord Rama who killed the egoistic Ravana and established religion again on earth. On the day of Ram Navami, Lord Sri Rama's bhajan kirtan etc. are performed. Ramayana and Ramcharit Manas are also recited in many homes on this day. Worshiping Maa Durga in Navratri leads to happiness and prosperity in life and a man gets rid of all the troubles of his life. Birth story of Lord Shri Ram

According to legend, Lord Rama's father was King Dasharatha and mother's name was Kaushalya. King Dasharatha was a very powerful king. The sting of his might was ringing in all directions. King Dasaratha had three marriages in his life. But none of his queens had a single son. Because of which he was extremely upset. When he consulted with the sage sages in this matter, he asked King Dasharatha to perform the Putreshti Yajna. After performing this yajna, King Dasaratha received Kheer. He gave that kheer to his elder queen Kaushalya. Kaushalya ate her kheer and gave half of it to Kaikayi and Kaikeyi ate it and gave half of it to Sumitra. After which Lord Shri Rama was born in Cancer Ascendant and Punavasu Nakshatra on the Navami date of Chaitra Shukla. While Kaikeyi also gave birth to a son named Bharata, Lakshman and Shatrughan were born from Sumitra's womb. Thus, four sons of King Dasharatha were born here. According to the Puranas, Lord Rama took birth on earth in Tretayuga to destroy the wicked. He did many welfare for human welfare. Lord Sri Rama had also abolished practices like untouchability by eating false berries of Shabri. He founded Dharma on the earth by destroying Ardham.
