In Phalgun month, Shuklapaksha Ekadashi fasting is observed as Amalaki Ekadashi. This year Amalaki Ekadashi fast will be observed on 6 March, 2020 i.e. Friday. In this Hindu mythology, this holy fast is believed to provide Vishnulok. Every part of it is considered the abode of God. It is said that this fast is very good for those who wish to attain salvation. People also believe that the effect of this fast gives the same fruit as donating a hundred cows. Amla tree was born on the same day as the universe. Amla is considered as a goddess. On the day of Amalaki Ekadashi , people should worship Lord Vishnu under the Amla tree and recite Vishnu Sahasranama. Even those who do not observe fast, offer Amla to Lord Vishnu on this Ekadashi and consume it themselves.
Amla has a special significance in Amalaki Ekadashi. On this day, amla is used in every work from worship to food. The worship method of Amalaki Ekadashi is as follows:
On this day, wake up in the morning and meditate on Lord Vishnu and resolve to fast. Recite Vishnu Sahasranamam, and light a lamp of ghee. After worship, an urn containing Navrtana should be kept under the Amla tree. If the Amla tree is not available, then offer the fruit of the Amla or gooseberry to Lord Vishnu in the form of Prasad. Worshiping the Amla tree with incense, lamp, sandalwood, roli, flower, etc. should be done under it, and a poor, needy person or Brahmin should be fed under it. On the next day i.e. after bathing on Dwadashi, after worshiping Lord Vishnu, a person or Brahmin should donate an urn, clothes and amla etc.
Ekadashi which falls on the Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month is known as Amalaki Ekadashi. Amla has the significant place in the scriptures. It is believed that when Lord Vishnu gave birth to Brahma Ji for creation of the universe, he alsogave birth to Amla tree. The Amla tree is revered by Lord Vishnu as the Adi tree. It is believed that Shri Hari Vishnu resides within the Amla tree.
For this reason, the Amla tree is worshiped on the day of Amalaki Ekadashi. On this day, Amla is also consumed. Consumption of Amla cuts all sins of human life. For this reason, Amla is also offered as Prasad to Lord Vishnu on this day. Worshiping Lord Vishnu on the day of Amalaki Ekadashi brings all the happiness. With this, one gets Vaikuntha Dham after death.
It is believed that the Amla tree originated at the beginning of the world due to the special grace of Vishnu. There is a legend behind this. Brahma was born from the navel of Vishnu. Once, there was a curiosity in Brahma Ji to know about himself, who he is, how and when he was born. To get an answer to all these questions, Brahma Ji started the austerity of Parambrahma. Pleased with the penance of Brahma Ji, Parabrahma Vishnu appeared. Tears of happiness flowed from Brahma Ji's eyes upon seeing Vishnu Ji in front of him. Lord Vishnu was very impressed by the devotion of Lord Brahma. Amla tree was produced from the tears of Lord Brahma. After this, Vishnu said that I will be very fond of the Amla tree that was produced by your tears and on the day of Amalaki Ekadashi, whoever worships the Amla tree, all his sins will be destroyed, and he will get salvation.
Follow the rules of fasting fast, as well as planting Amla tree on this day is very auspicious. There is happiness and prosperity in the home and freedom from disease and bereavement is attained. Amla tree is very effective as a medicine anyway. You can also gift it to others. By doing this, you get the blessings of the three Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh and get rid of all problems. The fast of Amalaki Ekadashi also paves the way for salvation.
Amalaki Ekadashi is described in Padma Purana and Brahmanda Purana. This fast has been described in the Brahmanda Purana by Vashistha Rishi. Vashistha Rishi lectures on this fast, telling that at one time in the state called Vaidisha, the supreme knowledge king named Chitartha was fasting Amalaki Ekadashi with his subjects. A statue of Lord Parshuram was installed under the U-Amla tree in the temple courtyard and was worshiped with bhajan etc. throughout the night.
